Who is Andrew Tate’s Late Father, Emory Tate Jr.?

Emory Tate Jr. was ~almost~ as famous in the chess world as his son, Andrew Tate, is on TikTok. His skill propelled him to win the title of International Master in 2006, while also beating between 80-100 Grandmasters throughout his career.

His dedication to his craft gave him notoriety, but also cost him time with family, a steady partnership, and even a stable place to live at times.

Yet, his content mood and self-confidence against all odds are preserved throughout every aspect of his life. Beyond their striking physical resemblance, Andrew Tate’s desire for success and his strong work ethic can be attributed, in some part, to his father.

Strategy is in his blood.

Well-known for his former professional kickboxing days and now prominent social media following, Andrew Tate’s presence has probably graced your feed a few times—whether you consented to it or not.

His controversial statements tend to put viewers on extremist sides, either fully supporting his W outlooks, or otherwise wondering, who lifted this man into power? Well, it’s still a mystery, but we think we know why his business model is working.

Andrew Tate’s father, Emory Tate Jr., established a strong mental pathway to success for his children. He embodied an aggressive stance on hard work and dedication.

His father had a successful chess career that began while he was in the US Armed Forces, with him winning the chess championship five times. He went on to become a legend in the world of chess. His Elo rating was 2500. For reference, the current #1 global chess player has a rating of 2863.

He would share his genius with even the weakest of chess players. His charisma and knowledge attracted a wealth of friends in all places. Todd Andrews, his chess student and friend, recalls Emory Tate Jr. as “a show man when it came to displaying his games.”

He also had immense self-confidence to a point of being defensive and protective over his abilities.

Sound familiar? His father is quoted as saying, “I am the greatest tactician of all time. Let it be known.” and “Trust me, I am Emory Tate.” Andrew Tate has adopted his strategies and confidence—on and off the board. He plays chess, too.

He worked for the CIA–no wait–Air Force. Get your story straight, Tate!

Emory Tate Jr. was also a master linguist—picking up other languages in a matter of a few weeks. His friends described him as a “true genius” and “mentor.” He spoke fluently in Russian, Spanish, German, and any language he attempted to learn.

According to Andrew Tate on a podcast, when his father died, someone contacted him to tell him his father held the CIA record for the fastest assimilation of a foreign language.

Tate boasts, “my father learn[ed] Russian in two and a half weeks.” But was it really the CIA? Andrew recalls the same story in another video, but instead of saying the CIA this time, it’s the Air Force. Either way, we believe it. Additional sources back up his father’s innate language ability.

Maybe that’s why Andrew Tate has such a way with words and a grip on his followers. His word is seen as “the law” by some. However, he views most languages as bullsh*t languages compared to English.

He thinks “stupid people don’t speak English. I don’t need to talk to stupid people. I want to talk to smart people.” We think he just wants to reach the largest audience demographic—English-speaking people.

Manly moments with Emory Tate Jr.

When Andrew was eight years old, he witnessed his father get attacked by four Mexican guys at 3 a.m. at a gas station in Detroit, MI.

He was able to fight them off and said to the police officer, “My unmatched perspicacity coupled with sheer indefatigability makes me a feared opponent in any realm.”

When he was 10 years old, his father yelled at his mother for talking about haircuts in front of his boys because he didn’t want them to be raised like girls concerned about their looks.

Then, Andrew’s head was promptly shaved to prove a point about the manly existence he must portray for the rest of his life. Clearly, this moment stuck with him because he mentions it again and again. And he’s still bald. His signature look is courtesy of dad.

We think these interactions among others have shaped Andrew’s manly perception. He refers to himself as a “high-value man.” He also believes, “If you’re a man who’s never had hard times, you’re not a very good man…the whole point of masculinity is the ability to resist.”

For a man who was mainly raised by his mother after his parent’s separation, he pushes this high-value man point through often. He continues to preach:

“the internet has allowed certain people to skip an entire process of manhood…to be a man, you must suffer, you must survive.”

Humble beginnings

Andrew Tate’s brother, Tristan Tate, also views their father as “the f***ing man.” He taught them everything they needed to know about life—a difficult life.

Despite their father’s successes, he never earned the millions his sons have. Professional chess players aren’t paid much, and the constant traveling to chess competitions made their father absent most of the time in their day-to-day lives.

Tristan Tate made it clear that his father was never affluent, he lived out of a car for most of his life, and they do not have trust funds.

Emory Tate Jr. taught his boys how to be men through fighting tactics, strategic chess games, and the occasional trauma. Andrew Tate agrees with all the sentiments and accomplishments of his father:

“I didn’t see my father very often, but my father was a massive influence on my life. I think I had the best father on the planet. I think he was the smartest man who’s ever walked the Earth…I have so many stories to prove his genius.”

Avoiding the perpetual state of crippling boredom

Emory Tate Jr. could have passed on a sense of restlessness to his sons. We know his father traveled a lot with minimal money, so he didn’t present an image of stability.

His father had an itch to perform well and display his skills; he was usually on the move to the next game.

When Andrew Tate was asked about his kickboxing career, he said, “If I’m not doing something which is either extremely difficult or extremely stressful, I’m in a perpetual state of crippling boredom. I can’t explain it.”

We can’t relate, but maybe his father could. Andrew Tate has a fighter mentality, which led to his millionaire status. He goes on to say he couldn’t live a normal life with a normal 9 to 5 job.

Andrew needs something difficult to fuel his fire. While we don’t always turn out exactly like our parents, Emory Tate Jr.’s modeling of this behavior could have influenced his son’s future actions and beliefs.

His father was crazy and right

We know his dad was admired for his genius, yet he also carried a sense of arrogance, and everyone called him crazy.

Andrew Tate wishes his father was alive because every crazy remark he made ended up being correct. He was right! Now, when people call Andrew crazy, he thinks he’s right as well. Like father, like son.

Andrew Tate hopes to provide that same crazy spirit to his children one day. He has similar logical views as his father.

Andrew views children as a responsibility and “if your kids are still breathing, you got a f***king job to do.” Since he doesn’t have children yet, he seems to enjoy imparting his wisdom to members of Hustlers University, an online school sharing his entrepreneurial tips.

Why Andrew Tate missed his father’s funeral

Although he had an appreciation and respect for his father, Andrew Tate could not make it in time for his father’s funeral. At the time of his father’s death, he had recently moved his webcam modeling business from London to Romania.

Andrew was faced with a difficult decision as to whether he should risk jeopardizing his business model or being with his family for weeks in Banks, Alabama, to honor his dad. He ultimately chose to stay in Romania with his webcam girls to continue his lucrative business.

I mean—are we surprised? He decided to hustle instead, backing up his choice through his dad’s life lessons and wisdom:

“I remember my dad’s lessons. My dad would have been furious if I f***ed up the financial stability of the family and of my mother and of my brother to just go to his funeral. My dad knew I loved him. I spoke to him every single day. And from what he taught me…He’s a chess player. He’s a logical man, right? Keep your business running and then come to the grave. Do it that way.”

In life and death, Emory Tate Jr. had a lasting effect on the people he encountered. His famous sons continue his legacy by being just as focused, strategic, and charismatic as he was in his lifetime. And—just a little crazy.
